Dawson County Area Regional Geographic Information Systems
Welcome to the Dawson County Area Regional (DCAR) Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Dawson County is located approximately 60 miles north of Atlanta. Dawson County is growing rapidly and has seen its population double in the last 10 years. The DCAR GIS project involves the collaboration of multiple agencies and organizations. DCAR participating partners are Dawson County Government, Etowah Water and Sewer Authority, Development Authority of Dawson County, and Dawson County School System. These organizations see an expanded enterprise GIS as a way to reduce duplication of effort and improve service to their customers and citizens.
What is GIS? A GIS (Geographic Information System) is a computer system capable of assembling, storing, manipulating, and displaying geographically referenced information, such as roads, tax parcels, aerial photographs, water mains, and sanitary sewers. What makes it different than, for example, an engineering drawing program is that a database is attached to each map layer. This allows the user to access information about elements in the layer using the map, such as the owner name and assessed value of a land parcel. This information is made available to users through the purchase of standard paper maps and direct access for in-house customers to data stored in the geodatabase.
The information on this map (or data product) is from a computer database accessed using a Geographic Information System (GIS). Dawson County cannot guarantee the accuracy of the information contained on this map. Each user of this map is responsible for determining its suitability for his or her intended use or purpose. County departments will not necessarily approve applications based solely on GIS data. County staff corrects errors in features on this map as they are identified. Dawson County shall have no liability for the data, or lack thereof. Images shown are for information purposes only and should not be used for design and construction. All information shown must be field verified for alignment, type, size, location , depth, etc. All locations are approximate and should not be considered exact.
